Through all of the dieting and changing of lifestyles and books and programs and ALL of the things you've explored to improve your health, there may be one tool you haven't considered.
Creativity is POWERFUL and I know that it can be a push, I know there may be resistance to this part of life.I invite you to read my words with an open mind.
If you're stuck, especially if you're under stress (especially chronic).. Life can be hard, we don't always feel great... It's not always easy to stick with the lifestyle changes, foods, dietary changes, attitudes and mindset shifts that I sometimes lay out for you to embrace.
I know this, I've lived it. I've struggles with majorly chronic stress. I had relationship stress, financial stress, stress about my security in many areas... I stressed about body image and emotional eating, depression and one serious health condition ... I lost many friends based on my shifting. I became choosy about the people I chose to be around and this let to some isolation.
There were a few factors I needed to deal with before I found my well rounded healthy life. The most important thing was to be comfortable in my own company and love myself even though I wasn't "perfect"..
I found solace in yoga, cooking, my kids, my dog and cat. What I want to share with you is important though. What helped me the most was getting in touch with that deep inner/healthy/perfect seed inside of myself. The main path to meeting and releasing her into the open was CREATING THINGS. Surprise, surprise...
This led to shedding of not only emotional pain but also weight I had been holding on to!!!
I mean journaling, poetry, collage, art (doodling and drawing.
I began making lists (I'll share one of my favorite lists at the bottom of this blog.)
A tool I want to share with you today is the Smash Book.
It's a tool to let loose all that you go through internally onto paper. Words, images and scrapbooking. Finding inspiring quotes and playing around with different ways to write (lettering-try cursive- look up different fonts and copy them.)
Draw, rip pages from magazines and paste to the pages, glue, paste mementos, ribbons, washi tape, stickers, all of the fun craft and art supplies.. OR it can be simple.
Print out images and words that speak to you, paste them and simply write out ANYTHING. It can be a food journal, food facts... It's YOUR book. make it uniquely yours..
How does this affect your health?
It MAJORLY affects everything related to your health.
You won't lose weight when your energy is going towards unhealed parts of yourself.
Also when you have blind spots in your emotional world and stress, they directly work against your self improvement.
If you need a therapist, by all means go for it, and also try creative expression, even if it's just a few words a day in a journal.
I recently was holding on to a difficult and destructive relationship-meant to be my friend but we were both hanging on to a fantasy.
I won't go in to all of the details but will share that this triggered difficult emotions that gave me an opportunity to observe patterns I had (and I assume others have). It has given me so many gifts. I am bursting at the seams to share them.
